Retaining the cosiness of the tearoom it once was, The Kitchen Restaurant is run by husband-and-wife team Harry and Karen Whybrow. Coping with a steady stream of regulars and return customers, Harry brings his charm to front-of-house duties while Karen works her magic in the kitchen on everything from fresh seafood to scrumptious homemade desserts. Menus change weekly, but a typical meal might begin with Cornish asparagus from Wadebridge with Terras Farm poached duck egg or – for something local – fresh Polperro crab served on a chicory salad with lime dressing. Choice, quality, and Cornish touches continue on the main menu, with steamed mussels from Fowey and fresh lemon sole from Looe day boats. After this, choose a dessert from the ‘Final Fling’ list and indulge in homemade rhubarb crumble tartlet, featuring delicious hazelnut pastry, or pick your favourite Cornish ice cream.
