Cycling in Cornwall has something for everyone regardless of what bike you ride or your level of fitness. There are limitless opportunities to get away from the hustle and bustle and cycle through some of the UK’s most stunning scenery. The rolling hills, high moors and undulating coastal roads of Cornwall can be challenging but are rewardingly picturesque.

The following cycle trails all offer bike hire, ranging from classic cycles to hybrids, electric bikes, mountain bikes, tandems (try it, great fun), trailers, kid’s seats, and tag-a-longs. All the cycle trails have been graded from super easy to hells teeth difficult, something for everyone.

The Clay Cycle Trail
The Clay Trails are located around St Austell and are a network of routes exploring this fascinating post-industrial landscape. For over 300 years the area was the centre of the China Clay industry, and this has left its indelible stamp on the shape of the land around here. Where there were clay pits there are now turquoise lakes and where there were spoil heaps there are now strangely shaped miniature mountains. Lanhydrock Cycle Trails – Bodmin, Cornwall, PL30 4AB
The National Trust, who also manages the Lanhydrock Estate, runs the trails. The main trails are green and blue graded XC trails, stretching to 10 km, aimed at novices and families. There is also a skills area, which features a red grade dual-slalom track, a unique feature in the Southwest. There is a well-stocked café, children’s play area, cycle hire and free car parking. The Bodmin Beast – Cycle Trail – Cardinham Woods, Bodmin, PL30 4AL.
This 12km cycle trail explores the slopes of the Cardinham Valley and as the name suggests, it calls for more than a little skill and courage. Setting the benchmark for singletrack trails in Cornwall the Bodmin Beast has keen mountain bikers and experienced off-roaders in its sights and those up to the challenge will face exhilarating climbs and descents, exciting technical tests and exposed snaking trails. But fear not, for those that like to take things at a more leisurely pace Cardinham Woods also offers plenty of less strenuous trails and of course, there’s always the tempting Woods Café. Siblyback Lake – Liskeard PL14 6ER
An easy-going route which is suitable to most abilities, so a wonderful opportunity to get outdoors. This beautiful walk is great for all the family and is even stroller-friendly, so great for new-borns too! The views of the lake on a sunny day are truly glorious. Camel Trail – Ddystone Rd, Wadebridge. PL27 7AL
The Camel trail has two routes: Wadebridge to Padstow and Wadebridge to Bodmin. Camel trail Cycle Hire offer a wide selection of bikes as well as electric bikes, dog wagons, tag along attachments and child seats. All their bikes are provided with locks and safety helmets and there is free onsite parking when hiring a bike.

The Padstow route is a must for bird watchers and nature lovers, this enjoyable route will take you alongside the picturesque Camel estuary which looks across to the beaches of Rock and Daymer Bay.

Enjoy a picnic halfway at the spite quarry and take in the views from the Iron Bridge that crosses you into the popular fishing harbour and town of Padstow made famous by Rick Steins Fish Restaurant.

The Bodmin route takes in winding streams and scenic views that will take you to the historic town of Bodmin, passing woodland walks, picnic areas and old railway stations. Why not take a trip to the Camel Valley Vineyard or try the Tea Rooms situated along the way? Near the end of the Bodmin trail is the Borough Arms which is a family friendly pub with large beer gardens and children’s play area. From here continue into the historic town of Bodmin and discover the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, Bodmin Jail and the Military Museum or stay on the trail following the river all the way to the end at Wenfordbridge.
